Ride to the border...

Today we rode almost all the way through Washington.  We got a leisurely start about 9:00 am and, except for a few rest stops and lunch, just kept riding...

This whole state seems very green, probably because there’s so little sun to dry things out.  The entire day we only saw sunlight for a few minutes here and there -- the rest of the time it was overcast and in the low 60s.  Considering the breeze that Harley kicks up on the freeway, it was a chilly ride.

What is noticeable is the smells.  When the breeze blows away the fuel smell of the highway, the predominant scents are vegetation, wood, and water.  You notice grass, lavender, and evergreens,  The lumber industry adds a layer of sap and sawdust, and the many waterways contribute a slightly fishy overtone.

It was a pretty ride, but nothing out of the ordinary.  Tomorrow is our new adventure -- we take Harley across the Canadian border and onto his second ferry ride.  (Remember Galveston?)
