We were able to sleep in a little this morning. We checked out of the motel in Alsip (outside Chicago) about 8:00 am, and headed north and east back towards Lake Michigan (about an hour’s drive) to visit with Cathy’s friend, Rose Marie, and her husband, Silvio. They had a wonderful breakfast waiting for us when we arrived, complete with home-brewed espresso. Although we had a great visit it, was too short!
The weather was great, and we took Lake Shore Drive south from their house along Lake Michigan. We passed by such landmarks as Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain, the Sears tower, Soldier Field (Go, Bears!), and various museums. Finally, we left the state of Illinois and went on into Indiana. We almost got to Louisville, Kentucky, but gave up for the night about 20 miles north. It looks like we will make Tennessee tomorrow.
