Not in Kansas Anymore

We left the Lincoln motel this morning about 7:00 am with light rain.  The rain got heavy about Tulsa and stayed that way for the rest of the day.  Keep in mind that we do not have rain gear.  We’re from sunny California!!  So, our leather riding gear gets wet in about 5 minutes, and we are soaked in about 10 minutes. Then we stay that way for the rest of the day!!

We stayed on Route 66 for the rest of Oklahoma, and went through some great little towns with brick storefronts and quaint little houses from the Route 66 golden era.  Vickie would go crazy over all the abandoned brick storefront buildings that would make great living lofts.

Somehow we missed the turnoff to go into Kansas.  Route 66 cuts across the lower corner of Kansas for about 13 miles before going into Missouri.  We’ll try to find it on our return trip, since the remaining “rainbow” bridge is in that section.

We went though Joplin, Missouri, (like the song lyrics) and on to Springfield, Missouri, where we gave up for the day.  After 6½ hours in the rain and 250 miles on the road, we had hot showers and a late lunch, went to Wal-Mart for supplies, AND did the laundry again.  It’s time to relax, watch the weather channel, and think about getting wet all over again tomorrow when we head for St. Louis.

Still happy on the road, but a little wet...
